PARALLEL

Parallel, object collage (2023)

Materials: plastic toop pelastiki, Iranian receipts, cardboard, ink, ecocline, mirror, highgloss and Iranian soil from the holy city of Mashhad.

‘Parallel’ examines the parallel experience of second-generation Iranian Dutch nationals. The group that was born or grew up in the Dutch system as the result of a choice that their parents made. A world where the outdoors at first glance bears no resemblance at all to their roots. Iranians in diaspora are known for their rapid and successful integration and even assimilation. But the paradox is that many of them, despite not having been born or raised in Iran, maintain strong cultural links with their country of origin and often have a strong sense of homesickness and uprootedness carried with them.

‘Parallel’ was on show during the exhibition ‘The Rest is Still Unwritten’ presented by Stimuleringsfonds at Strijp-S, Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week.

My art book ‘Parallel’ is expected in 2025. Subscribe to my newsletter to be kept informed about my publications.
