A. GHAFARIAN RABE'I

Afsaneh Ghafarian Rabe’I (Assen/Netherlands, 1992) is an Iranian-Dutch freelance photographer and visual artist based in Amsterdam.

Her Iranian origins play a major role within her storytelling. As the daughter of migrant workers who ended up in the Netherlands in the late 1960s, she found out at a young age that the Netherlands is not the centre of the world, but that multiple realities can and do exist side by side.

In addition to freelance photography, she likes to process her stories with mixed media including paint, screenprinting, textiles and digital art.

Ghafarian Rabe’I started as a self-taught photographer and shaped her own art practice through various internships at renowned photographers such as Jan Hoek (2019) and Cigdem Yuksel (2020-2021).

In 2022 Ghafarian Rabe’I received the Stimuleringsfonds Talent Development Grant ‘22/’23 and is presented by Stimuleringsfonds during Dutch Design Week 2023.

For Parallel, which is due to be elaborated and released as a self-published art book, Ghafarian Rabe’I examines the parallel experience of second-generation Iranian Dutch nationals.

With her brandnew webshop SHOP AFSANEH she wants to make her varied work accessible to public and communicate with her collectors.
